General information and material properties
Granite is a natural stone, and every worktop is unique. It is a highly durable material that is ideal for kitchen worktops thanks to its strength, heat resistance and longevity.
Although granite is denser than many other stones, it is still somewhat absorbent. Liquids left on the surface for a long time can cause stains — which is why correct, regular care is essential.
Good to know
- Natural material → needs care
- Every slab is unique
- Correct care extends its lifespan
Regular protection and sealing
Granite should be sealed (impregnated) to keep the surface looking good for a long time. Although granite feels very hard, it can still absorb liquids and be sensitive to chemicals.
Always check whether the worktop has already been sealed — if it has, no immediate action is needed. Sealing should be repeated every 4–12 months, depending on use.
What to do
- Seal regularly
- Use stone protection products
What to avoid
- Don’t leave liquids on the surface
- Don’t use acidic cleaning products
Daily cleaning
Everyday cleaning can damage the surface if done incorrectly — acidic cleaning products remove the protective layer.
Use a microfibre cloth and a pH-neutral cleaner, and always dry the surface afterwards. Don’t let liquids sit on the surface for long.
Stain removal
There is no universal solution for removing stains — always act quickly.
| Stain | Solution |
|---|---|
| Coffee, wine | Neutral cleaner |
| Grease, oil | Degreaser |
| Limescale | Stone cleaner |
| Ink | Alcohol |
Heat and use
Granite is heat-resistant, but we recommend using trivets and avoiding impacts.
Quick overview
- Clean with a soft cloth
- Avoid acidic substances
- Seal regularly
- Use trivets and a chopping board
