Marble worktop care

Marble is a natural, elegant stone with a luxurious look — but it is softer and more sensitive, so it needs careful use and regular care.

General information and material properties

Marble is a natural and elegant stone, known for its beautiful veining and luxurious appearance. However, it is softer and more porous than granite, so it requires careful use and regular care.

Marble reacts with acids and can easily suffer chemical damage (etch marks). It can also absorb liquids and become stained.

Good to know

  • Porous material → absorbs liquids
  • Very sensitive to acids (lemon, vinegar, wine)
  • Needs regular sealing

Sealing

A marble worktop must be sealed regularly to reduce the absorption of liquids and protect the surface from stains.

Sealing is recommended every 4–6 months, depending on how intensively the worktop is used.

What to do

  • Seal regularly
  • Use dedicated stone protection products

What to avoid

  • Don’t leave liquids on the surface
  • Don’t use unsuitable care products

Daily cleaning

Marble must be cleaned with very gentle products. Acidic cleaners can etch the surface, leaving it dull and blotchy.

It is best to use a soft cloth, warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Always dry the surface after cleaning.

Recommended

  • Microfibre cloth
  • Neutral cleaner
  • Clean spills immediately

Avoid

  • Vinegar, lemon, wine and other acids
  • Abrasive sponges and powders
  • Harsh chemicals

Stains and damage

Marble is prone not only to stains but also to chemical etch marks, which cannot be removed by normal cleaning. They form on contact with acids and harsh chemicals.

When removing stains it is important to act quickly, but deeper damage may require polishing.

Problem Solution
Coffee, tea, wine Neutral cleaner immediately
Grease Mild degreaser
Acid marks (etching) May require polishing
Dull patch Professional restoration

Use and durability

Marble is not as durable as granite, quartz or ceramic. It is better suited to decorative or light-use areas.

We recommend using chopping boards and trivets, and avoiding dropping heavy objects on the surface.

Quick overview

  • Needs regular sealing
  • Avoid acids
  • Clean gently
  • Deal with stains quickly
