General information and material properties
Quartz composite worktops are made from a mixture of natural quartz and a resin binder, resulting in a very durable and uniform material. Unlike natural stone, quartz has very low absorbency and does not need sealing.
Quartz is a hygienic, non-porous and easy-care material, which makes it ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. However, it is sensitive to high heat and harsh chemicals.
Good to know
- Non-porous → does not absorb liquids
- No sealing needed
- Sensitive to high heat
Daily cleaning
Everyday care of a quartz worktop is simple. In most cases a soft cloth with lukewarm water or a neutral cleaner is enough.
Although quartz is durable, harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaning products are not recommended.
Recommended
- Microfibre cloth or soft sponge
- Neutral cleaner
- Regular cleaning
Avoid
- Abrasive sponges and powders
- Harsh chemicals (oven cleaners, solvents)
Stain removal
Quartz does not absorb liquids, but tougher dirt should be cleaned with a suitable product. Substances left on the surface for a long time can leave marks.
| Stain | Solution |
|---|---|
| Coffee, tea, wine | Neutral cleaner |
| Grease | Mild degreaser |
| Marker | Alcohol |
| Dried-on dirt | Warm water + sponge |
Heat and use
Quartz does not withstand very high heat as well as natural granite. A hot pot or pan placed directly on it can damage the surface or cause discolouration.
Recommended
- Always use trivets
- Use a chopping board
Avoid
- Placing hot pots directly on the surface
- Cutting directly on the worktop
Chemicals and durability
Quartz generally withstands everyday cleaning, but harsh chemicals can damage the surface or make it dull.
Avoid prolonged contact with solvents, bleach and acidic substances.
Quick overview
- Easy care – no sealing needed
- Clean with a neutral product
- Use trivets
- Avoid harsh chemicals
